India has achieved a major milestone in aviation infrastructure as the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati Terminal 2 have been featured in the prestigious Prix Versailles World’s Most Beautiful Airports 2026 list. The recognition highlights India’s growing emphasis on world-class airport design, sustainability, and passenger-centric infrastructure.
The Prix Versailles, presented annually at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, honors outstanding architectural achievements across sectors such as airports, hotels, museums, and public infrastructure. The award celebrates projects that successfully combine innovation, cultural identity, functionality, and environmental responsibility.
Navi Mumbai International Airport was recognized for its iconic lotus-inspired architecture, advanced technology integration, and efficient passenger movement systems. Designed as a modern gateway to India, the airport reflects the country’s aspirations as a global economic and transportation hub.
Meanwhile, Guwahati Airport’s Terminal 2 received acclaim for its design inspired by the Bamboo Orchid, a symbol of Northeast India’s rich biodiversity. The terminal blends sustainable construction practices, regional cultural elements, and energy-efficient infrastructure to create a unique travel experience.
Other airports featured on the 2026 shortlist include facilities in Guangzhou, Frankfurt, Kandal Stueng, Pittsburgh, and San Diego. The achievement underscores India’s progress in developing globally competitive infrastructure while preserving local culture and promoting sustainability.
