New Delhi: At Sir Gangaram Hospital doctors removed 39 coins and 37 magnets from the intestine of a 26-year-old man.
He is a schizophrenic. He is recovering well after surgery and was discharged.
Senior Consultant for Laparoscopic, Laser, and General Surgery Tarun Mittal said 37 Rs 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 coins and magnets in various shapes like hearts, stars, circles, triangles and bullets were removed during the surgery.
When the doctors asked him why he had taken them, the patient told the doctors that he wanted to build his body and that he thought zinc was in coins and magnets
The patient told that the magnets would keep the stay in his intestines and help absorb the zinc.
The patient came to hospital complaining of frequent vomiting and abdominal pain for more than 20 days.
After all the the necessary research, the reports shocked the doctors, Magnets and Coins were found in his intestines. Doctors immediately prepared for surgery and removed 39 coins and 37 magnets.
After one week of post surgery, the patient was discharged and is currently recovering.
Doctors advise against eating these foreign bodies. They can be life-threatening and should not be done.
