India Achieves Record Wind Power Addition of 6.05 GW in FY 2025–26

India has achieved a major milestone in its clean energy journey by adding a record 6.05 GW of wind power capacity in FY 2025–26, marking the highest-ever annual addition. This represents a significant 46% increase compared to the previous year and reflects the strong momentum in the country’s renewable energy sector.

With this addition, India’s total installed wind energy capacity has crossed 56 GW, reinforcing its position as one of the global leaders in sustainable energy. The achievement also brings the country closer to its ambitious target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

The surge in wind energy growth is driven by supportive government policies, improved infrastructure, and increased private sector participation. Measures such as concessional duties on turbine components, waiver of inter-state transmission charges, and transparent bidding systems have boosted investor confidence and accelerated project execution.

States like Gujarat, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have played a key role in this expansion, emerging as major hubs for wind energy development. Additionally, advancements in wind-solar hybrid projects and grid integration have improved efficiency and reliability of renewable power supply.

Institutions like the National Institute of Wind Energy have also contributed by supporting research, development, and policy implementation in the sector.

Overall, this record-breaking growth highlights India’s commitment to clean energy, energy security, and sustainable development, positioning it strongly in the global transition towards greener power sources.
