Narendra Modi has inaugurated the ambitious Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, marking a major milestone in India’s infrastructure development. Spanning 594 km and built at a cost of ₹36,230 crore, this six-lane (expandable to eight) greenfield corridor is among the longest expressways in the country.
The expressway connects Meerut to Prayagraj, passing through 12 districts and creating seamless connectivity across western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. This high-speed corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time from 10–12 hours to nearly 6 hours, improving efficiency for commuters and logistics operations.
A key highlight of the project is the 3.5-km emergency airstrip in Shahjahanpur, designed for fighter jet landings during emergencies, adding strategic and defence value to the infrastructure.
Beyond transportation, the expressway is set to function as an economic corridor by promoting industrial growth, logistics hubs, and investment opportunities along its route. Integrated with other major expressways, it will strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s road network and support balanced regional development.
Overall, the Ganga Expressway represents a significant step toward faster connectivity, economic expansion, and modern infrastructure in India.
