UK Becomes Country Partner for Hornbill Festival 2025; Air India Express Joins as Travel Partner

In a significant boost to cultural diplomacy and tourism in Northeast India, the United Kingdom has been officially named the Country Partner for the Hornbill Festival 2025, scheduled from 1 to 10 December at Kisama Heritage Village, Kohima. This marks a major milestone for one of India’s most iconic indigenous festivals, known globally for celebrating Naga culture, craft, music, and heritage.

Strengthening Indo-UK Cultural Ties

The partnership was formalized in New Delhi through an agreement signed between Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and British Council India Country Director Alison Barrett, in the presence of British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron.
As part of the collaboration:

  • The British Council and British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, will curate cultural and artistic showcases.
  • A UK-based artist will be invited to perform and engage with festival audiences.
This reflects the growing Indo-UK commitment to fostering deeper cultural exchange and people-to-people engagement.

Air India Express Becomes Official Travel Partner

In another key development, Air India Express has been named the Official Travel Partner for Hornbill Festival 2025. The airline will:

  • Introduce a special Boeing 737-8 aircraft featuring a Tsüngkotepsü-inspired livery, the traditional shawl of the Ao Naga warrior tribe, under its ‘Tales of India’ initiative.
  • Offer 15% discounted fares on flights to and from Nagaland starting 20 November, to promote festival tourism.
The special aircraft will be received at Dimapur Airport on 22 November by the Chief Minister.

Boost to Nagaland’s Cultural Tourism

Chief Minister Rio stated that these partnerships will provide:

  • A major boost to cultural tourism
  • A global platform for Naga art, craft, and heritage
  • Greater economic opportunities through enhanced connectivity
Nagaland aims to position itself as a world-class cultural destination through such international collaborations.
