98th Oscars: Academy Announces Full List of Eligible Animated, Documentary & International Films

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the full list of eligible films for the 98th Oscars, covering three major categories — Best Animated Feature, Best Documentary Feature, and Best International Feature Film. This year’s selection highlights global diversity, streaming-era successes, and a record number of nonfiction submissions.

Animated Feature: A Strong Global Lineup

A total of 35 animated films have qualified, led by Netflix’s worldwide hit “KPop Demon Hunters.” Major contenders include Disney’s much-awaited “Elio” and “Zootopia 2,” Neon’s “Arco,” and GKids’ acclaimed “Little Amelie or the Character of Rain.”
Japan’s “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” and India’s blockbuster “Mahavatar Narsimha” also feature prominently. However, China’s big release “Ne Zha 2” is notably missing from the eligibility list.

Documentary Category Hits New Record

The Best Documentary Feature category has received 201 submissions, the highest across all Oscar sections this year. The Academy’s documentary branch will vote to shortlist 15 titles on December 16, with the final nominees selected thereafter. The field includes major investigative, historical, and cultural documentaries vying for limited nomination spots.
