Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, has reconstituted four key Parliamentary Committees for the 2026–27 term to strengthen accountability, transparency, and effective governance. These committees will function from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027, and play a crucial role in overseeing public expenditure, government performance, and welfare policies.
The Committee on Estimates, chaired by Sanjay Jaiswal, will examine how government funds are allocated and suggest measures to improve efficiency and reduce wasteful spending. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), led by K. C. Venugopal, will scrutinize government expenditure based on reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, ensuring financial discipline.
The Committee on Public Undertakings, chaired by Baijayant Panda, will review the performance of public sector enterprises, while the Committee on the Welfare of SCs and STs, headed by Faggan Singh Kulaste, will focus on safeguarding the rights and welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Parliamentary committees, rooted in constitutional provisions like Articles 105 and 118, act as essential instruments of legislative oversight. By examining policies and expenditures in detail, they help ensure responsible governance and strengthen India’s democratic framework.
