India and Indonesia have elevated their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership by signing 14 agreements covering defence, maritime security, trade, digital payments, education, space, healthcare, and critical minerals during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Jakarta on 7 July 2026.
A major highlight of the visit was Indonesia’s decision to procure India’s BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and Astra Beyond-Visual-Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM), marking a significant milestone in India’s growing defence exports. Indonesia becomes the third Southeast Asian country, after the Philippines and Vietnam, to acquire the BrahMos missile system.
The agreements also promote cooperation in critical minerals, steel supply chains, telecommunications, research and innovation, food security, medicines, education, and space science, further strengthening economic and technological ties between the two nations.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific, emphasizing maritime security, regional stability, adherence to international law, and ASEAN centrality. The agreements reflect the expanding strategic partnership between India and Indonesia and reinforce India’s role as a trusted defence and development partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
