National Sports Governance Bill 2025: A New Era for Indian Sports Reform

India has tabled the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 in Parliament to transform the landscape of sports administration in the country. The bill introduces a unified regulatory structure to improve transparency, athlete representation, and accountability across sports bodies—including the powerful Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Key features include the formation of centralised bodies like the National Olympic Committee, National Sports Federations, and a National Sports Tribunal to resolve disputes efficiently. The bill promotes ethical governance, mandates fair elections, and ensures financial transparency, while also improving gender balance and internal grievance mechanisms.

While the BCCI retains its autonomy, it will be required to comply with recognition and governance norms. The bill also addresses ten core challenges, including financial opacity and weak athlete voice, positioning Indian sports for a more equitable and globally compliant future. Complementing this, the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025 ensures India’s adherence to WADA norms through a strengthened NADA framework.
