In a festive gesture, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced free electricity supply for nearly 15,000 Ganesh pandals across the state. The move, expected to cost the exchequer around ₹25 crore, aims to support devotees and organisers during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The decision came after several organisers of Ganesh mandapams appealed to IT and Industries Minister Nara Lokesh for assistance in covering power costs. Following discussions with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Power Minister Gottipati Ravikumar, the government agreed to extend the benefit.
Officials confirmed that Durga Puja pandals will receive similar concessions during Vijayadasami festivities. The support will ensure uninterrupted power for lighting, sound systems, and other festival arrangements, enhancing the celebratory spirit across the state.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to preserving cultural traditions while easing the financial burden on festival organisers.
