Bengaluru’s Stunning Victory Over Goa in a Five-Set Thriller
Prime Volleyball League Season 4
Hyderabad, October 3:
The second day of the Prime Volleyball League Season 4 brought fans an electrifying encounter. In a nail-biting contest held on Friday night at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Bengaluru Torpedoes edged past Goa Guardians with a 3–2 victory (15–9, 11–15, 13–15, 17–15, 15–9).
Though Bengaluru trailed 1–2 at one stage, they displayed remarkable fighting spirit to clinch their first win of the season. Bengaluru’s star player Jalen Penrose was named Player of the Match for his stellar performance. Indian badminton star Satwiksairaj Rankireddy was a special attraction in the stands, cheering for the Bengaluru team.
From the very beginning, Bengaluru’s Sethu troubled Goa’s libero Ramanathan with his sharp serves. Setter Matt West skillfully created scoring opportunities for Penrose and Joel Benjamin, who dominated the first set with thunderous spikes.
However, Goa bounced back as Chirag’s aggressive play, along with Jeffrey Menzel and Nathaniel Dickinson’s cross-court attacks, helped them seize momentum. After securing two consecutive super points and winning the next two sets, Goa took a 2–1 lead.
The fourth set was a fierce battle, with both teams fighting point-for-point. Goa’s Rohit Yadav stunned Bengaluru with a superb serve, while Prince made crucial blocks to stop their attacks. But in the key moments, Penrose’s counter-attacks and serves revived Bengaluru’s hopes. Nitin Minhas made crucial blocks to push the match into a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, Bengaluru dominated completely. Joel launched attacks from the left flank, while Mujeeb and Penrose excelled in defense to seal their team’s first win of the season.
With this victory, Bengaluru Torpedoes earned two points, while Goa Guardians, despite their valiant fight, secured one point.
