Hyderabad traffic police have intensified their crackdown on motorists using mobile phones while driving, announcing a special enforcement drive under which violators will face a ₹1,000 fine. The initiative comes after the city recorded several accidents linked to mobile phone distractions.

Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar urged motorists to stay focused, stating, “No distraction is worth a life.” He warned that drivers—especially auto, cab, and bike taxi operators—caught watching videos or using earphones while driving will face strict action.

In 2025 alone, Hyderabad traffic police have issued 77,791 challans, collecting ₹7.72 crore in fines for mobile phone use while driving. Despite penalties, such violations remain common on city roads, prompting this renewed crackdown.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (2023), dangerous driving, including phone use, caused 23.6% of road fatalities in India, second only to overspeeding. The Hyderabad police’s latest move aims to reinforce road safety and protect pedestrians, passengers, and drivers alike.
