Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has virtually inaugurated three new door-to-door freight and parcel services, marking a major step in strengthening India’s logistics network. The initiative is part of Indian Railways’ strategy to enhance last-mile connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and make rail transport more competitive with road freight.
The newly launched services include:
- Assured Transit Container Service (Delhi → Kolkata): A time-bound, reliable container train ensuring faster and predictable deliveries between key industrial hubs.
- Door-to-Door Parcel Service (Mumbai → Kolkata): A full logistics solution that picks up and delivers parcels directly to customers, eliminating intermediate handling.
- Railway Goods Sheds as Integrated Logistics Hubs: Selected goods sheds will be transformed into multimodal logistics centers for collection, distribution, and transshipment.
Integrated with CONCOR (Container Corporation of India Ltd.), these services are expected to deliver up to 7.5% cost savings and 30% faster transit compared to road-only transport.
By upgrading infrastructure and offering end-to-end connectivity, Indian Railways is positioning itself as a key player in India’s fast-evolving logistics ecosystem—paving the way for efficient, sustainable, and digitally driven freight movement across the nation.
