PV Sindhu Elected Chair of BWF Athletes Commission for 2026–2029

India’s badminton star Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (PV Sindhu) has achieved a significant milestone off the court by being elected Chair of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes Commission for the 2026–2029 term. The appointment marks an important step in her leadership journey within global sports governance and strengthens India’s presence in international badminton administration.

As Chair of the Athletes’ Commission, Sindhu will also become a member of the BWF Council, ensuring that the voices and concerns of players are directly represented in the sport’s highest decision-making body. In this role, she will work to safeguard athlete welfare, promote integrity and fairness, and contribute to policy and governance decisions affecting badminton worldwide.

Thanking fellow athletes for their trust, Sindhu called the appointment an honour and acknowledged the contributions of former Chair Greysia Polii. She expressed her commitment to working closely with the BWF to bring meaningful and lasting changes that benefit players at all levels.

Sindhu has been associated with the BWF Athletes’ Commission since 2017 and has served as a BWF Integrity Ambassador since 2020, reflecting her long-standing involvement in athlete representation. Debora Jille of the Netherlands has been appointed Deputy Chair, while the commission also includes top players such as An Se-young, Doha Hany, Jia Yifan, and Indian para-badminton player Abu Hubaida.

A two-time Olympic medallist and former world champion, PV Sindhu remains India’s most successful badminton player, and her new role further enhances India’s influence in global sports governance.
