APEDA to Establish Basmati and Organic Farming Training Centre in Pilibhit

By Soniya:

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is set to establish a basmati and organic farming training centre along with a demonstration farm in Pilibhit. The project has gained momentum after the allocation of 7 acres of land in Tanda Bijesi village, with an estimated investment of around ₹15 crore.

The centre will focus on training farmers in premium basmati cultivation, organic farming practices, seed production, and export standards. It aims to boost agricultural income by promoting high-value crops and improving export readiness among farmers in the region and nearby areas.

A key highlight of the project is the integration of artificial intelligence for satellite-based crop surveys. This system will help map basmati cultivation, identify varieties, and generate accurate production estimates, strengthening export planning and quality control.

The facility will include a seed unit, an auditorium, and a museum showcasing 45 notified basmati varieties. It will also feature an NABL-accredited laboratory for testing DNA, pesticide residues, and heavy metals, ensuring global quality standards.

Once completed, the centre is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing India’s basmati exports while promoting sustainable and technology-driven agriculture.
