Fatima Sana Creates History with Record-Breaking Performances in Women’s T20 Cricket

By Soniya:

Pakistan women’s cricket captain Fatima Sana has etched her name in the record books with a series of remarkable achievements in Women’s T20 International cricket and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Her outstanding performances in 2024 and 2026 have established her as one of the most impactful all-rounders in the game.

During Pakistan’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against South Africa at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on 17 June 2026, Fatima Sana produced a historic all-round display. She scored an unbeaten 55 runs and claimed 3 wickets for 16 runs, becoming the first captain in Women’s T20 World Cup history to score a half-century and take three wickets in the same match. Despite her efforts, Pakistan narrowly lost the game by two wickets.

The match also witnessed another milestone as Fatima Sana and Tuba Hassan stitched together a 71-run partnership for the ninth wicket, setting a new record for the highest ninth-wicket stand in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history.

Earlier in May 2026, Fatima Sana smashed the fastest fifty in Women’s T20 International cricket. Playing against Zimbabwe in Karachi, she reached her half-century in just 15 balls and remained unbeaten on 62 off 19 deliveries. The previous record of 18 balls was jointly held by Sophie Devine, Phoebe Litchfield, and India’s Richa Ghosh.

Fatima Sana has also made her mark as a leader. Appointed captain of Pakistan’s women’s team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, she became the second-youngest captain to win a match in the tournament’s history at the age of 22 years and 10 months.

Her recent achievements highlight her growing influence in international cricket and underline her importance to Pakistan’s women’s team as both a captain and a match-winning all-rounder.
