India Launches First Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System on Highways

India has taken a major step in modernizing its highways with the launch of its first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system, eliminating barriers and ensuring seamless travel. The system will debut at Choryasi Fee Plaza on NH-48 in Gujarat, with plans to expand nationwide.

The initiative, a collaboration between Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and ICICI Bank, was formalized at NHAI headquarters in New Delhi on August 30, 2025, in the presence of NHAI Chairman Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav.

Key Features of MLFF

  • Uses FASTag and Vehicle Registration Numbers (VRN) for toll collection
  • Powered by RFID readers and ANPR cameras
  • Eliminates toll booths and stop-and-go traffic
  • Reduces congestion, saves time, improves fuel efficiency, and cuts emissions
  • Ensures accurate and transparent toll revenue collection

Apart from Choryasi Fee Plaza, Gharaunda Fee Plaza on NH-44 in Haryana will also adopt MLFF under early implementation. NHAI aims to extend this system to 25 toll plazas across India in 2025–26, marking a transformative leap in road infrastructure and digital tolling.
