A special celebration called Purple Fest was organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on March 13, 2026 to recognise the achievements, talent, and aspirations of Divyangjan (persons with disabilities). The event aimed to promote awareness, inclusion, and respect while highlighting the abilities and contributions of persons with disabilities in society.
More than 8,000 Divyangjan visited the Amrit Udyan during the day-long celebration. The garden was opened exclusively for them, allowing participants to take part in interactive games, learning sessions, exhibitions, and social engagement activities. Several organisations working for disability welfare also set up information stalls to provide guidance and support.
In the evening, Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, attended the festival at the Open Air Theatre in the President’s Estate. She watched cultural performances by Divyangjan artists, including music, dance, and creative acts that showcased their talent and confidence.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu emphasized that a nation’s progress is measured not only by the success of its privileged citizens but also by how well it supports vulnerable sections of society. She highlighted the importance of inclusion, compassion, and equal opportunities, noting that empowering Divyangjan is essential for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The Purple Fest, organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aims to increase awareness about disabilities, encourage acceptance, and build a more inclusive society where every citizen can live with dignity and equal opportunities.
