India has secured a prominent role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence as four leading Indian business executives—Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Lakshmi N. Mittal, and Vishal Talwar—have joined the AI for Good Global Commission, a high-level international initiative launched by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Salesforce on 3 July 2026. The commission aims to promote the responsible, inclusive, and ethical development of AI while ensuring its benefits reach people across the world.
The AI for Good Global Commission brings together more than 40 global leaders from governments, businesses, academia, and international organizations to develop practical solutions for trustworthy AI governance, digital inclusion, and sustainable development. The initiative builds on the work of the ITU-UNESCO Broadband Commission and seeks to address challenges such as digital inequality, privacy, ethics, and equitable access to AI technologies.
The commission is co-chaired by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin serving as Vice-Chair. It also includes prominent technology leaders such as Jensen Huang (NVIDIA), Brad Smith (Microsoft), Andy Jassy (Amazon), Cristiano Amon (Qualcomm), James Manyika (Google), and Albert Bourla (Pfizer).
India’s representation reflects its growing influence in artificial intelligence, digital public infrastructure, telecommunications, manufacturing, and innovation. The participation of Indian industry leaders is expected to contribute valuable insights on expanding digital connectivity, promoting responsible AI adoption, and reducing the global digital divide.
The commission’s inaugural meeting will be held during the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, from 7–10 July 2026, where global stakeholders will discuss AI governance, ethical standards, and the use of artificial intelligence to advance sustainable development worldwide.
