The Tripura Government has made the full version of the National Song Vande Mataram and the National Anthem Jana Gana Mana compulsory in all schools across the state from 7 July 2026. The directive applies to government schools, government-aided schools, private schools, and recognised madrassas.
Under the new school assembly protocol, students, teachers, and staff must begin each academic day by singing the complete version of Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem, while standing at attention as a mark of respect.
The order was issued by the School Education Department based on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ guidelines dated 28 January 2026 regarding the respect, protocol, and rendition of the National Song. The decision was approved by the Tripura Council of Ministers on 25 June 2026 and came into effect on 3 July 2026.
Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in his novel Anandamath, is India’s National Song, while Jana Gana Mana, composed by Rabindranath Tagore, was adopted as the National Anthem by the Constituent Assembly on 24 January 1950.
The initiative aims to promote patriotism, national unity, and awareness of India’s national symbols among students while ensuring uniform observance of official protocols in educational institutions.
